Encaustic w/mixed media
16 x 20Breakthrough ideas create an eruption of possibilities. Some emerge immediately with clarity, while others lurk in the fringe just below the surface, teasing daydreams in the murky area between curiosity and understanding.

Splash Joy Series
Encaustic w/mixed media
Each work is 4 x 4These little pieces, with eruptions of color and splashes of white, are meant to bring smiles. A bit whimsical, they represent the refreshing moments when we are open to the world and randomly splashing joy on others. I named these festive little pieces Splash Joy along with some special characters. A parody in a world where it usually takes a password to gain access to almost anything, these colorful visuals are a reminder that performing a random act of kindness is the password to unlocking joy. Please do splash joy often!

Encaustic, W/mixed media
12 x 12Minnesota is home to three iron ranges known as the Cuyuna, the Mesabi and the Vermilion. I pay homage with a series of rust paintings to honor three of Minnesota’s unique character traits. The painting marries an expansive view of clouds drifting over the land and lakes, the rugged glacier carved hills, and the rust that richly reddens the earth.

Encaustic w/Mixed Media
14 x 14Water is a mirror to its surrounding environment. Overcast winter skies will disrupt light refraction turning blue water lakes to gray. “Ambient” expresses the negative space of a cloud covered sky merging with the horizon of water blurring the line where one begins and the other ends. In the bright light of day, their diversity reigns, but when an ambient light is turned on the landscape, differences disappear and they appear as one.
